Poison Control: Preparing A Puppy-safe Home

Puppies love to explore. They love to sniff, taste and scratch their environment. Unfortunately, there are some things that are dangerous to your puppy. So before your puppy comes into your home, take some time to make your home a safe place for your puppy.

Poison control is a lifelong effort. Unlike humans, puppies will never learn to avoid poisons. The good news is that you already know about many of the poisons and all you have to do is put them safely away. (Remember, some dogs can open cupboard doors. Purina® recommends you either fasten them or move the poisons to high shelves out of reach of your puppy.)

These common poisons include soaps, cleansers, automotive products like antifreeze, lawn care products and medicine (NEVER try to give your dog people medicine unless under the direction of a vet!)

But some poisons are harder to spot, like houseplants. Make sure none of the plants from the following list are in places your puppy will be living.
