Keep Your Pup Cool with Chilled-Out Summer Gear

Doggie Boots: Dogs absorb and release heat through their feet. Boots protect your dog from the powerful heat that rises from surfaces like cement and asphalt.

A Kiddie Pool: Got a nice spot in the shade where you can set one up? It's a fun way to let your dog cool off.

A Wet Towel: An inexpensive way to give your dog some relief from the heat. Remember, dogs cool from the bottom up. A wet towel does more good on the bottom of your dog than on top of her coat.

A Water Spritzer: Spraying your dog with cool water is a great way to cool your dog down on a long walk. Spray the paws and stomach too -- not just the top of the dog!

A Portable Water Bowl: Always have water available for your dog on long walks. Some paths may have a special water fountain for your pup, and that's great. But your pup may need water before you reach it. A portable water bowl and a bottle of water is a great way to ensure that your pup won't go thirsty.

A Bottle of Water: Be responsible: keep one handy on a long walk. If your dog wears a backpack or vest, you can even let him carry it. The water inside the bottles will keep the dog cooler, and carrying it will give him a sense of purpose.

Great ideas! I just got a little plastic wading pool for my pooch and she loves it! I also am getting a back-pack for her for our walks. Summers in California are pretty hot and we can't forget about keeping our pets cool. I even have one of those Canine Cooler pads for indoors.

u have taught me that the feet and bottom sides of dogs feel the heat more than the upper body..thanx for the info...i find this site very valuable w great info...much appreciated...sheree

All of those are great,here in Az it is way hot and taking the fur kids out is either very early or very late.The rest of the time is indoors staying cool.The water bottle is also a favorite of them all.and While we always carry bottled water for us I have found that dogs will drink from them as well and if you are outdoors it really doesn't matter if it drips on the ground,When I go indoors as in with my therapy dog in a hospital,or elsewhere,I bring a towel to put on the floor.Everyone thinks it is a great trick,but I have found it very convenient,And anyone one that thinks their dogs could never do it,I just tell them to let their dogs think it is their drink,all dogs think that human's especially their humans have the best stuff.so they readliy go for it.

Thanks Cesar for some great summer tips! My dog Greta loves carrots as a treat. Now that summer is here, I've found that she loves frozen carrot juice (no sugar added, of course). The popsicles or ice cubes are an easy and inexpensive summer treat.

Please do not chain your dog outside in the summer heat. In fact, hot weather or not, think about the horrific, lonely, limited, dirty life of a dog that is kept perpetually chained. There ought to be a law? Yes, slowly lawmakers are waking up. Educate yourself about this hidden problem in tens of thousands of backyards: www.dogsdeservebetter.org.

good ideas . there is a law in califorina about dogs that are chained up . you cant chain up a dog no more then 3 hours .

Check out www.PetMallAmerica.com to find cooling beds to keep your pet cool this summer. They also sell automatic pet waterers that are great for pets while you're gone to keep them hydrated. I've bought stuff from them and they're stuff is great and the prices are even better!!!

Those are great and another thing that I do is freeze water bottles for my dog Sparky. When the weather really heats up I leave one in his crate or his bed to help him keep cool, he loves it!

I got a misting fan. You connect it to the hose and it sprays a cooling mist. My dog goes and stands in the mist to cool down. If it's really muggy I don't turn the hose on, just the fan and point in the garage . He just goes in, takes his blanket and literally chills out. He looks very cozy and cool.

i have found that advantage is the only thing to rid fleas. both my dogs had them. i tried all brands and home potions. this is what worked. pit bull lover Texas

Yeah, the kiddie pool works great for me! All three of my dogs have them and they all love them. We never go for long walks during the day, but when we do we always have water with us, and stop at a creek during our walk. Then they lay in the kiddie pool after the walk.

Those are all great ideas! However, My Alaskan Malamute beats the heat with Frosty Paws. Ice cream for dogs. They can be a bit pricy, 4 ice cream cups for $4.00. But well worth it. He get's so excited every time we open the freezer. He know's what he is going to get.

The new thing to do about fleas is to alternate Advanatage and Frontline every two weeks. I've done major reasearch on this because fleas are my greatest annoyance. The ladies at my vet office told me about this and so far, so good. You can buy these meds on www.PetMallAmerica.com

Get Frosty Paws! There Ice Cream for dogs, but the are healthy for them, I have a Siberian Husky and since he has 2 coast it really keeps him cool!

well my dog has lots of hair so we get him a lion cut every 1 to 2 weeks in the summer time also we put froze water bottles inside the zip up pillows he really enjoys that.
