Kittens need to be 'humanized'. Talk to them, pet them, play with them from the time they are born. Never punish it for some act after it has occurred.
Talk to your cat. Baby talk is fine, but I carry on "conversations" with mine and they respond really well -- they "talk" back to me and have learned several words (including "NO"). Cats are very intelligent, and if you respect that and treat them appropriately, they will reward you. I had one bluepoint Siamese for 18 years who was my best friend, and we carried on regular "conversations". Cats will learn your moods -- my Siamese knew when I was upset and would cuddle with me and pat my face. A close relationship with a cat can be very fulfilling. :)
My recently SPCA adopted cat is a Turkish Van. I did not know how much they like water until my little fellow jumped into the bathtub with me! You can imagine my surprise! Now we regularly give him a once a week shower or bath and he loves it!

Most of all, don't feed your dog or cat commercial pet food. There are alot of good recipes out there and my cat's health has improved in an amazing way because I got rid of commercial cat food. Read Dr. Pitcairn's Guide to Natural pet health, it's a great book with easy recipes. Your Vet bills will go way down as well. I make a large batch once a month and freeze it in small containers and it costs half the cost of commercial food.
I HAD TO GO TO TEXAS FOR 2 WEEKS,,,AND I HAD TO LEAVE MY BABY WITH GOOD FRIENDS WHO ALSO HAVE CATS.....I MISS HER SO MUCH....I'M HOPEING THAT THE TIME AWAY FROM ME DIDN'T TRAUMATIZE HER IN SOME WAY...WE HAVE NEVER BEEN A PART SHE IS FIVE....I DO TRAVEL A LOT SOMETIMES ANY ADVICE ON WHAT I CAN DO I THINK HER FEELINGS GET HURT.??????
I have two cats. One is overweight and is a bully over the food. The other only eats in small amounts. Any suggestions on how to help my fat cat lose weight. They are both indoor cats.
Answer to growens03: I have the same problem with my cats. I feed the overweight cat a lite cat food and the other regular food in different rooms. I don't leave food out all day but I do feed them both small amounts morning, late afternoon and before bed. The overweight cat has lost 5 lbs. (he was hugh) and my other cat has picked up a feww pounds.
My method is a bit more trouble, but both cats are happier and healthier.
You should mention having your home free of the feline distemper virus (which it probably isn't if you have outdoor animals) and making sure your kitten has been vaccinated 3-4 times. Also, keep new cat away from other cats until all shots have been received (usually after 3 months). I lost 2 kittens to the virus.
I got my cat from a local shelter..I was planning on getting a cat, went to meet some, and when they brought mine in she started purring and rubbing against me. My cat has become a wonderful companion and was particularly comforting and sweet when my dad passed away. She's about 3 and a half now and I'm looking forward to many years of her companionship.
We just got a kitten and it was an outside kitty. We want Max to be an inside kitty but he is not using the litter box any suggestions on how to help him figure it out.
In regards to "ezavila14's" post he does not even deserve the effort that would be wasted to respond to his post as thats why he did it. Responding back like patricia m only serves to lower you to his level. Animals deserve to be treated to the same respect as humans do.
You guys are right I am sorry I should not have responded as "it" is only trying to flame on here and for that I am sorry. "It" does not deserve my response or attention.
ezavila14 you are really demonic! Yea, you got demons all right and you need to go get delivered!! Sicko, no one thinks your cool or funny or bad ass,,,,get over your evil self!
I have actually realized my cat understands me....When she meows in a loud almost screeching tone, I reply back with a what and she does the same meow over and I say what again and she does the screech again...It's toooo cute !!!
I can't wait to get two more kitties. This time I will get them from a credible place. My last two died of feline leukemia. I spent $300 trying to save them, but nothing worked.
I adopted a beautiful cat a few months ago, her name is Orange. We were happy at first but then she was so mad at me because I had to work all day and she was lonely at home. One day she escaped and went back to her original home. I realized it was not meant to be. She is such a beautiful cat! So, yes, getting a cat should be something you have really thought about, and you need to be ready for it. Orange lives in her original home with other four cats and the owners love her deeply.
I reported his entry as abusive.
The article said cats don't like litter boxes with covers. I have 2 cats and 3 litter boxes. One is open and 2 have covers. They use all three. Sometimes I think they like a little privacy, just like everyone else!
Ok I really didn't want to respond to Ezavila 14's comments but I just had to say that whoever you are, you are an ass. You deserve to be shot in the head and hung up by your balls and you need to go seek serious mental help.
Now my comment to the serious people, I have a wonderful cat and she is my best buddy. I have had her 5 years and I wouldn't trade her for the world.
I have 3 wonderful kitties. They are everything to me. I just found out that I am pregnant and I'm worried about how my cats are going to respond when the baby comes. Any suggestions??
Actually, ezavila14 is a liar. That should be obvious to everyone. He doesnt own a rifle at all and never shot anything. It just helps his self image to think he could do something violent, when in reality he most likely is the victim of alot of social abuse at school.
But you all are right, this little boy obviously needs professional help.
i just reported him, what a jerk. putting him aside, however---i have 2 great danes but i'd like to adopt a kitten as well....is that just impossible? i'm afraid that they would kill the kitten by accident because they're so big.
